GPS & Radio Frequencies

For scoring, the Competition organizers are using CompGPS or the latest software as recommended by the FAI. Pilots should be familiar with their instruments to ensure measurement compatibility.

GPS Settings

3D tracks  - are logs that have traces for –(date & time, Lat. & Long., altitude )

Time - will be NZ summer time NZDT (UTC +13 hours) with a track trace recording at a maximum time interval between logged points of 30 seconds.

Coordinate - format Lat./ Long hh dd mm.mmm or NZ Grid

Supported GPS

The organizers will have cables for Garmin (12, 72, 76 eTrex), Compeo, Competino, Flytec (5030/5020) but will also accept other GPS's that the user can supply the cable for and interface to the system used by this competition).

If you have any doubts please contact us well in advance to confirm compatibility.

Radio Frequencies

Radios capable of transmitting and receiving on the following simplex frequencies are mandatory for all pilots. The frequencies available on UHF Citizen Band radios commonly available in NZ and Aust. will be used in these competitions. (These radios operate in the 476 to 477 MHz range and usually come with 40 channels). The following channels will most likely be used with their corresponding frequencies for those pilots using multiband units. Task boards and briefings may alter these channels as circumstances dictate.

Tune radios to Simplex Mode. (NOTE -  VHF frequencies are not supported.)

Channel 7  (476.5750 MHz) Each pilot shall fly with their radios turned on and tuned to this frequency . This channel is for EMERGENCY USE and for communications from the Competition Director.

Channel 8  (476.600 MHz) For communicating on the ground and for arranging retrieves.

Retrieves

No entry fee funded retrieve system has been provided for. The retrieve drivers are voluntary and although happy to provide the service they expect to have their direct costs covered. The “standard” fee for transport to launch has been $5 but current fuel prices being double of previous years may see this reviewed. Similarly for retrieves of say 20 kms. For retrieves over larger distances the contribution being depended on numbers picked up and distance. Hitchhiking is also an option with good traffic flows experienced at this time of year especially on the main highways.
